The impacts of trauma manifests in individuals, classrooms and schools in a myriad of ways. Understanding how trauma impacts neurobiology and brain development is essential for all educators in order to respond with appropriate interventions. In this session we will learn about the autonomic nervous system, and how it reacts and responds to trauma and stress. With a solid foundation of what trauma is, we will then explore practical, creative strategies to move beyond mere understanding to actively creating an environment conducive to healing, connection, and learning.
In this session we will:
- Explore practical strategies to address and meet the needs of trauma-affected students within the school environment.
- Learn how to develop and apply tools that foster a sense of safety, trust, and support in the classroom.
- Engage in self-reflection regarding your own reaction to stress and how this shows up in your work with students
- Learn and practice a variety of regulation strategies that you can use with your students, or for your own wellbeing!
