Do you support students with big behaviors and complex diagnoses and wish you knew more about supporting them from a therapeutic approach that actually makes sense? Paraeducators are in the unique position of forming close relationships and offering support to students who often have complex mental health diagnoses. In this workshop, we will review some of the most common diagnoses we see in schools (ADHD, Autism, Depression, Anxiety, Communication Disorders, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, etc.) from a student-centered lens and discuss how to make our relationships, interventions, and school accommodations stronger. We will review what paraeducators have control over and how to be aware of our own responses and triggers, all from an approach that centers student strengths and autonomy, as well as how your self-awareness and self-regulation can have a life-changing effect on your work and relationships.
